Message from Leon Hartman, Music Coordinator at Two Boots

Two Boots is a collision of cuisines and cultures, celebrating a world of sumptuous sensations. Our playlist aims to reflect the wide range of influences that compose our DNA – CBGB Dollar Nights, LES B-Boy Bounce, Downtown Jazz, Acadian traditionals, lots of Beatles, funk and soul of all stripes, and some novelty baseball tunes for good measure. As well, we look to tell the story of where we’ve traveled with our pizza – from East Village No Wave to Fairfield County Jam Bands to Baltimore Dream Pop to New Jersey Surf Rock to Nashville Honky Tonk to LA Shoegaze.

Lookin’ Out My Backdoor – Credence Clearwater Revival
Was playing when a NYPD officer ordered a slice of The Dude while I was working the counter back in the day

Yes Indeed! – Harry James
In my personal top 100, and from a region of the playlist that is part of Papa’s musical legacy

Lust For Life – Iggy Pop
His crust is entombed in our counter, this track was featured in the short film I starred in (where I got killed over and over), and it feels like something from the primordial gumbo that Two Boots sprang out of

These Boots Are Made For Walking – Symarip
Obscure ska cover of our seminal song – an example of Spotify surfacing unbeknownst gems when searching certain titles

Breathin’ Hard (Over You) – Camellia Hartman
You You – Odetta Hartman
How fantastic that I get to include my sisters’ groovy recordings in our sonic stew!

Stagger Lee – Lloyd Prince
A favorite sing-along of Two Boots’ OG Alumnus, Count Slima, who can be seen crooning along at the East Village shop

Sabine Turnaround – Lost Bayou Ramblers
Gotta represent Cajun country! Our dear friend Louis Michot leads this nouveau-revival folk ensemble, carrying forward the heritage of the region that inspired it all!
