We’re saving this beautiful neon sign!

November 22, 2016
We’ve been constructing a store in FiDi for a couple months now, and in the process have uncovered a rare piece of New York history. Upon initial construction of our restaurant we discovered a decades old neon sign for Loft’s Candies, just one of the former businesses at this address on Nassau St in downtown Manhattan.

We’re restoring the sign (which has been covered for at least 25 years) in collaboration with the artist Steve Powers and Let There Be Neon. The tubes are being cleaned and repaired, the channels will be power-washed and repainted, and a new transformer is to be installed. Unfortunately, this is a “non-illuminated zone” so the light cannot be officially turned on, but our plan is to flip the switch once a year, as a treat to all vintage sign and olde New York lovers (count us among them).

In addition to some awesome signage, this location will have a pizzeria on the ground floor, a cozy bar on the second floor and a rooftop bar up above. We hope to be open by the end of the year!
