from director Lech Majewski
"Majewski, born in 1953, is a major discovery, a brilliant filmmaker whose haunting aesthetic is formed of much deeper stuff, processed through a lively mind and idiosyncratic imagination, chastened and tempered by history, and captured on screen with the rigor and perfectionism of an artist who might also carve castles out of toothpicks."
- WASHINGTON POST
Lech Majewski recently received a major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art
THE GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS, also written and directed by Majewski, opened at the Pioneer in 2006
A young poet, whose violent father's shadow looms over him, recalls traumatic episodes from his life while locked away in an asylum. Majewski originally presented this work as a gallery installation entitled Blood of a Poet, composed of thirty-three video art pieces exhibited on multiple screens. GLASS LIPS, a narrative feature film, is drawn from these thirty-three elements.
An earlier compilation of these video art pieces was presented as part of the Lech Majewski retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in May 2006, under the title BLOOD OF A POET. It is also currently showing as a multi-site installation of the Venice Biennale.
